East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) is an extensive hospital and health service network that supports the health and wellbeing of more than 725,500 Western Australians in our catchment area.

Our hospital network works together to provide tertiary, secondary and specialist health care services including emergency and critical care, state trauma, elective and emergency surgery, general medical, mental health, inpatient and outpatient services, aged care, palliative care, rehabilitation and women’s, children’s and neonates services.

Our vacation program

Our vacation program offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students the opportunity to earn an income and gain valuable work experience while completing an undergraduate degree.

You can undertake a clinical or non-clinical placement as part of your supervised practical course work leading to a qualification required for a health related occupation such as:

  • allied health
  • nursing and midwifery
  • medical
  • paramedical
  • pharmacy
  • health administration

You can gain experience in a range of areas including medical, mental health, community, paediatric, midwifery, surgical and critical care services.

What we need from you

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant university degree (health sciences, nursing, medicine, allied health, or related fields).
  • Eager to learn and gain hands on experience in a dynamic healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem solving skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Passionate about contributing to the health and wellbeing of the WA community.

Your pay

Your pay will be around $1,225 each week.
This is the HSU General Division Level G-1 Step 1 pay rate plus superannuation.

When

Our Vacation Program typically runs for 2 weeks during the June to July period. The program is full time, and you are expected to work Monday to Friday during standard business hours. However, the duration can be negotiated based on your individual needs. Exact start and finish dates will be confirmed upon placement.

Where

We have several sites including Royal Perth Hospital, Armadale Health Service, Bentley Health Service, Kalamunda Hospital, St John of God Midland Public Hospital, and associated facilities.

Several sites are accessible by public transport by Transperth, however parking is available at some.
