Tailoring a job to suit the talents and skills of a person while still meeting the needs of the employer is an effective way to remove barriers to employment for people with disability.
It is also a great way to enhance performance and productivity as it focuses on the person’s strengths.
Job matching may involve either:
- job re-design where duties and tasks are reallocated or added to an existing position description
- job design where duties and tasks are created from scratch.
What actions can I consider?
- Partner with a Disability Employment Services provider or the IncludeAbility Employer Network to connect with job seekers with disability and discuss employment programs that may be available.
- Consider appropriate pathways to recruit candidates using job matching. This may include direct appointment following an individual assessment of merit, and using the exceptions under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
