Reclassification of substantive holder of reclassified position

Ensuring consistent classification of positions in the WA public service.

Chief executive officers and employing authorities may, where appropriate, approve the substantive occupant of a reclassified job receiving the benefit of the position’s new classification level into or within the SES provided the officer has:

  • been in the position for a continuous period of 12 months
  • undertaken the higher level duties that warranted reclassification for a continuous period of 12 months immediately before the reclassification date.

A continuous period may include normal and reasonable periods of leave such as personal and annual leave.

Where an SES position is reclassified and the SES officer receives the benefit of the new classification, their contract is varied to reflect the new classification but the term of the SES contract is unchanged.

A copy of the updated or new SES contract is to be sent to the Commissioner within 10 days of being signed by both parties.
