Contact Licensing Enforcement Division if your question has not been answered:

Can I change the calibre of a firearm I already own?

Yes, however the firearm must be handed to a WA licensed firearm repairer or manufacturer to change the calibre. An Additional Firearm Licence Application will need to be submitted at a participating WA Australia Post.

The application must include your genuine reason/need for the new calibre and include a firearm ‘Serviceability Certificate’ with the new calibre recorded. If the application is approved, the old calibre for the firearm will be removed from your licence and an updated licence will be issued.

Can I pick up my recently approved licence or have it emailed?

No. Newly approved licences are printed and mailed by an external printing agency on behalf of Licensing Services.

Licences are printed on a secure paper stock and can therefore not be emailed.

How do I change the barrel of a firearm I already own?

This is considered a firearm ‘repair’ and must be carried out by a WA licensed firearm manufacturer or repairer.

If the barrel change involves a change of cartridge (eg, .308WIN to 6.5 Creedmore) or you wish to retain the old barrel then a firearm licence application is required to be submitted. Your firearm manufacturer or repairer can provide you with further advice.

How do I replace a faulty firearm from the dealer I purchased it from?

This is a firearm warranty matter between the firearm dealer and the firearm manufacturer. The WA licensed firearm dealer may, in exceptional circumstances, request Licensing Services to amend the replacement firearm details on your licence at no cost to you. Your firearm dealer can provide you with further advice.

When do I receive my Extract of Licence Card (ELC)?

You should receive your Firearm Identification Card which is known as the Extract of Licence Card (ELC) within 3 weeks of your Original Application being approved. If you have not received your ELC by the end of this time, contact Licensing Services on 1300 171 011.
