The Pilbara Energy Transition Plan (PET) Plan is a roadmap to a cleaner energy future for the Pilbara region. The plan is the result of the Pilbara Industry Roundtable series, which started in August 2022. The plan is now being implemented by a reinvigorated Pilbara Roundtable, bringing together Traditional Owners, industry and the State Government.

Pilbara Industry Roundtable

In August 2022, the Pilbara Industry Roundtable was established by the Western Australian Government. The membership of the Pilbara Industry Roundtable was broad and representative of industry in the region to discuss the unique opportunities and challenges of the energy transition in the Pilbara.

Participants met four times and in July 2023 published a communique, where members committed to participating in a future work plan with broad consensus on outcomes relating to decarbonisation, regulatory reform, land tenure and Aboriginal participation.

Pilbara Roundtable

On Friday 13 September, the Pilbara Roundtable met to discuss the next steps in the decarbonisation of the region. The meeting focused on renewable energy providing meaningful and lasting benefits for Aboriginal peoples. Following this, Energy Policy WA will continue to hold workshops and build capacity in partnership with Traditional Owners.
