As part of the Pilbara Energy Transition, new clean energy projects are key to a secure and reliable renewable energy future for everyone in the region.
The WA Government has allocated $3 million in funding support to help Traditional Owners across the Pilbara. This will be used to explore the potential for participation in clean energy projects on Country.
The Traditional Owner Participation Support (TOPS) fund
- Funding is open to all Prescribed Bodies Corporate affected by the Pilbara Energy Transition. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for advice and support.
- Applications are open until 30 June 2025 or until all funds are fully committed.
Eligible activities include:
- Activities that assist Traditional Owners/Prescribed Bodies Corporate to access information and resources. This means better informed negotiations and decision making.
- Access to expert or specialised advice on Pilbara Energy Transition Plan. This includes:
- enabling more informed contract negotiations with renewable generation developers;
- assessing opportunities and preferred sites for renewable generation and transmission infrastructure;
- renewable energy resource assessments and monitoring;
- assessing if renewable generation is feasible; and
- studying renewable generation grid-connection.
How to apply for funding
- TOPS Funding applications are being processed through the SmartyGrants platform.
- The TOPS Guidelines include further detail on the process to prepare and submit a grant application.
