A leadership development program shaping managers into leaders

When applying for Propel, applicants select one topic from the 3 available. Each topic is delivered independently of the other topics. Topics do not need to be completed in any particular order.  

Applicants can apply for 2 or 3 topics simultaneously over a single 10 week period. This would be a significant undertaking and involve 3 times the program fee.

1. High performance and crucial conversations

Leaders gain insights into themselves with a focus on Adaptive Leadership, high performing teams, building trust, coaching, courageous conversations and accountability. 

The topic focuses on developing strategies that support teams to create an operating rhythm that leads to enhanced work performance. It explores the personal ‘tools’ needed to support and enhance team performance and hold effective conversations. 

On completion of the topic, participants:

  • understand the principles and practices of Adaptive Leadership 
  • developed an operating rhythm that supports team performance 
  • understand how to build trust between the individuals within their team, and the team’s trust in them as leader 
  • possess effective feedback and coaching skills 
  • have continued to develop and improve their leadership practice.

2. Culture and leadership

Leaders gain insights into their leadership practice and how their behaviours and actions, as leaders, build and maintain an effective team culture that underpins their team’s impact and success.  

This topic focuses on the importance of clarity of purpose in driving a team’s work performance and the links between leadership and team culture in ensuring that the team’s purpose and objectives are achieved. 

On completion of the topic, participants: 

  • understand how, as leaders, they can positively impact team culture 
  • understand the importance of purpose and organisation culture in team and Agency performance 
  • have analysed of the existing culture of their team 
  • have explored and applied changes in their leadership practice to evolve their team’s culture 
  • have continued to develop and improve their leadership practice.  

3. Changes and strategies

Leaders gain insights into performing at their best when faced with difficult situations, making the best decisions to achieve optimal outcomes and leading in a rapidly changing environment. 

This topic looks at the leadership skills required to successfully lead teams through complex environments, and how to be resilient in the face of change and uncertainty. It also explores the tools and models required to have the confidence to make hard decisions and drive a team towards its full potential.

On completion of the topic, participants: 

  • developed the insight and skills necessary to diagnose the contexts in which leadership is required 
  • understand the difference between business as usual, technical leadership and the adaptive leadership of change 
  • have practiced the key skills of Adaptive Leadership, the leadership required in times of rapid and significant change and evolution 
  • developed the capabilities to engage, motivate and collaborate for effective complex problem solving.
