The Shire of Katanning is located 290km south-east of Perth in the Upper Great Southern region. The Council wanted to install and operate its own EV chargers to give employees, residents, and visitors the confidence to transition to EVs.

The Council had already identified that its Council Building car park was the ideal site to install chargers for employees and other visitors, as it was in the centre of town and close to businesses and amenities.

'The Council hoped that providing EV drivers the ability to charge during the day while working, visiting or running errands, would encourage them to transition to EVs.'

The Charge Up Grants provided the ideal low-cost opportunity for the Council to take this next step. Having already chosen a location, the Council found the process of designing a project relatively straightforward, working with eligible contractors to determine the most cost-effective site closest to the switchboard and choosing chargers within the remaining budget.

The Council promotes usage of its chargers through its website and signage at the site, which also encourages drivers to charge during the day to take advantage of the buildings solar system when energy is most abundant.

Further information on the Shire’s journey can be found in its Fact Sheet and the Workplace Charging Project Guide.
