Funerals in Australia can cost anywhere from $4000 to $15,000 depending on whether they are simple or elaborate.
It is important to know what you are getting and how much it will cost. The funeral director should provide a written quotation. You may be able to pay the amount off in installments but this must be pre-arranged and is usually a more expensive option.
Typical funeral costs include:
- fees for the funeral director
- transport
- the coffin
- death certificate
- permits
- burial or cremation
- cemetery plot
- other expenses such as a celebrant or priest, flowers, newspaper notices and the wake.
