Developed and delivered through a partnership between the Department of Treasury and Public Sector Commission, Technical and Leadership Capabilities for CFOs aims to enhance financial management of public sector agencies through investment in and support of the sector’s finance leaders.
The program drives uplift in expertise and knowledge to better equip all chief finance officers with both the requisite financial capabilities and the essential leadership capabilities to maximise public sector effectiveness and deliver increased value to the community.
The program is delivered in 2 distinct parts:
Technical capability modules (Empowering CFOs) – delivered by the Department of Treasury
These modules drive technical skills development to enable CFOs and agencies to meet the standards required by the Financial Management Act 2006 and other legislative requirements as well as the State Budget process. The inaugural delivery of these modules starts on 1 November 2024 and is mandatory for all current public sector chief finance officers.
Leadership capability modules – delivered by the Public Sector Commission
These modules provide contemporary leadership development that enables CFOs to create and maintain high performing finance teams that meet the needs of their agencies, the state’s financial management framework and oversight bodies such as the Auditor General. There are 2 intakes a year for these modules.
Together, the 2 modules provide CFOs with what they need to excel in their vitally important role of overseeing all aspects of agency financial management and certifying agency financial statements for annual reporting to Parliament.
