ATCO Gas Australia (ATCO) has been awarded a grant for a major capital works project valued at $2.6 million to assist with decarbonising the Western Australian (WA) gas distribution network.

Renewable hydrogen produced at ATCO’s Clean Energy Innovation Hub near Perth will be blended into isolated sections of the Mid-West and South West Gas Distribution Systems (GDS), lowering emissions for the WA community.

The project aims to blend up to 10 per cent hydrogen into the GDS, supplying up to 2,500 customers with renewable hydrogen blended gas, and will be the largest project of its kind in Australia.

Further announcements on Round 2 of the WA Renewable Hydrogen Fund  will be provided in the coming weeks.
