Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS)

A state government initiative to encourage mineral and energy resource exploration in Western Australia.

The program aims to increase private sector resource exploration, leading to new mineral and energy discoveries in Western Australia. The EIS is managed by the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) to acquire and deliver high quality geoscience data and assists exploration through a co-funded drilling program.

Major projects include geophysical and geochemical surveys, integrated geochronology and isotopic fingerprinting to assist understanding basement and basin evolution with time.

Promoting strategic research with industry by supporting and collaborating with the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA), Australian academic institutions, CSIRO, MinEx CRC and METS industry.

Government-Industry Co-funded drilling a competitive program, open for applications twice a year, which offers up to a 50 per cent refund for innovative exploration drilling projects, capped at specific amounts.
