The Pilbara Environmental Offsets Fund (PEOF) team worked with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to fund data synthesis and analysis projects.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions received $118,000 to undertake two projects to summarise the current knowledge, gaps, research and management priorities (where identified) for six fauna species that are considered Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) in the Pilbara.

The first project focused on the greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis). The second project synthesised existing information on the northern quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus), greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis), Pilbara leaf-nosed bat (Rhinonicteris aurantia), ghost bat (Macroderma gigas), night parrot (Pezoporus occidentalis) and Pilbara olive python (Liasis olivaceus barroni), as they are the main species that are required to be offset through state and Australian government approvals in the Pilbara.

Both projects were completed in August 2023. The final reports are available in the PEOF document collection.

The research will be used to inform and guide the implementation of MNES fauna management activities through the PEOF.
