View the following frequently asked questions and answers about the E-waste Infrastructure Grants Program.

Stream 1 is for collection and storage of e-waste. Staff would be required for collection. Is that staff cost an eligible cost?

Grant funding does not cover staff costs.

Are there time limits on project completion if successful?

The anticipated timeframe would be identified in your application and discussed prior to forming the project schedule in the final agreement.

Would lithium-ion batteries be covered?

Batteries are covered.

Is general e-waste covered? i.e. electronic components from e-scooters/e-bikes

General e-waste is covered, but e-scooters and e-bikes are not.

Can solar panels be included in grant funding? It is an off-grid area.

Solar panel (photovoltaics) recycling is included in the grant funding.

I thought the solar panel question was to power the area, not to dispose of solar panels.

Provision of solar panels to power the site is not included in the grant funding.

In Stream 1, what about cost for training staff to get certified as test and taggers to sell second hand electronics?

No, training is not covered under the grants.

How far out can the project milestones be?

When you make a proposal in your application, if we think that it’s unreasonable, we will come back to you to negotiate. It will be based on what the milestone is.

While lithium batteries are included, what about larger lithium batteries like car batteries?

Car batteries are included.

Do permits need to be in place prior to agreement, or can this be part of project milestones?

They can be part of a project milestone, but we would not be providing funding for those permits.

In the case of using a grant to improve reuse and keep electronics in market for longer, would Stream 1 only cover the cost of purchasing test and tag machines?

Yes

For Stream 2, does the project have to recycle e-waste or can it be for collection, storage, transport and recycling fees that we would incur?

Stream 1 is for e-waste collection and storage and/or reuse. Stream 2 is for e-waste processing or recycling.
