E-waste Regional Transportation Support Scheme

Supporting regional local governments to transport e-waste for recycling
Last updated:

The State Government implemented a statewide ban on e-waste disposal to landfill on 1 July 2024. The ban supports the objectives in the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 to recover more valuable resources from waste and to protect the environment by managing waste responsibly.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is administering $766,000 in grant funding to support regional and remote local governments (LGAs) in the transition period following implementation of the ban.

The E-waste Regional Transportation Support Scheme (ERTSS) will support the ban by providing a rebate to regional and remote LGAs towards the cost of e-waste transportation for recycling.

Applications for the ERTSS opened on Monday 13 January 2025 via our SmartyGrants portal.

You can view the media statement at Regional and remote locations to get support with e-waste transport costs.

Applying for grants

Grant applications for the ERTSS can be made for eligible e-waste deliveries from 1 January 2025. Applications will remain open until 1 June 2025 or until funding is exhausted.

Eligible local governments can apply to receive up to 50 per cent of costs incurred for the transportation of eligible e-waste to a licensed e-waste recycler or aggregation hub as detailed in the E-waste Regional Transportation Support Scheme: Guidelines.
