This annual event, started in 2005, brings together individuals, community groups, schools, organisations and businesses across Western Australia to not only collect litter and debris from the environment, but also gather data by auditing what is found.
All data collected is added to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) database and contributes to an annual report that gives a snapshot of the types and amounts of debris around the state on the at the time of year.
In the words of Tangaroa Blue founder, Heidi Tait, “If all we do is clean-ups, that’s all we’ll ever do”. By gathering data groups are able to work on solutions to stop the flow of litter at the source.
