Community feedback from 2023 showed the vast majority of Western Australians are concerned about the impacts of plastics on the environment and there is strong support for the recent ban on single-use plastic shopping bags, cutlery, plates and straws.
Western Australians have embraced the first stage of Plan for Plastics. It has become second nature to bring a reusable grocery bag to the shops or use a paper or bamboo straw when you’ve purchased a cold drink.
We are now asking you to join us in the next step as we make the transition towards a sustainable WA.
Western Australians, and people all around the world, are ready to switch more packaging and products to safer alternatives. We all hold the choice to purchase the most environmentally friendly option, and these small changes have a huge positive impact.
Community action
As part of this next stage of the WA plastic bans, we are encouraging you to make the best environmental choice by:
- bringing your reusable coffee cup and dining in rather than being provided with a single-use takeaway cup
- purchasing loose produce such as fruits and vegetables in reusable bags rather than pre-packed items in plastic wrap or using a plastic produce bag
- bringing a reusable food container when getting takeaway or dining in rather than being provided with a single-use plastic or polystyrene container.
