Making the transition to low emissions renewable energy is an important step in limiting the impact of climate change and protecting the land, sea, sky and waterways.
An important part of the Pilbara Energy Transition (PET) Plan is ensuring that the unique cultural heritage and Country of each of the 32 Traditional Owner groups across the region is protected and respected.
Support for Traditional Owners and communities
The State Government recognises the important role Traditional Owners have in this energy transition. Support for Traditional Owner groups and communities includes:
- Inviting participation and perspectives to help shape projects in the region through one-on-one meetings and participation in the Pilbara Energy Transition Aboriginal Working Group (PETAWG), and Pilbara Roundtable.
- Funding for Traditional Owner groups to explore clean energy projects on Country through the Traditional Owner Participation Support (TOPS) fund.
