Child Placement Principle

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle aims to promote policy and practice that will reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in child protection and out-of-home care systems; and keep Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children connected to their family, community, culture and country.

Target 12

Target 12 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap is to reduce the rate of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 2031.

Foster care assessment information sheet

Department of Communities is conducting a review and update of the Foster Carer Assessment Manual, in partnership with the sector. The aim of this review and update is to streamline the assessment process.
