Rainbow Futures WA has been announced as the peak body to represent and advocate for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual Plus (LGBTQIA+) people in Western Australia.
Rainbow Futures WA is a consortium of WA-based LGBTIQA+ community organisations.
Rainbow Futures WA will play an essential role in advocating for LGBTQIA+ people to create a Western Australia that is inclusive for all.
The peak body will work in conjunction with the State Government and the LGBTQIA+ Community Reference Group to support the development and implementation of WA’s first LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Strategy (the Strategy).
The purpose of the peak body is to represent the interests of the LGBTQIA+ community in WA and build and maintain an effective and sustainable partnership with the State Government, community and sector organisations.
Earlier this year the State Government announced $900,000 over two years to develop the State’s inaugural LGBTQIA+ Strategy, which is being led by the Department of Communities.
The Strategy will support a coordinated approach to improve inclusion and reduce discrimination for LGBTQIA+ people by identifying priority areas and actions to drive long-term change.
While many LGBTQIA+ people enjoy lives of meaning and connection, some LGBTQIA+ face significantly higher levels of discrimination, stigma, and social exclusion. This can contribute to disparate health, social, economic and mental health outcomes.
There will be a variety of opportunities for the community to have input and participate in the Strategy’s development.
Visit the LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Strategy webpage for more information.
Disclaimer: The State Government uses LGBTQIA+ initialism to acknowledge diversity of this community. This initialism may be adapted responsively to reflect the evolving language and preferences of the LGBTQIA+ community.
