Twenty-nine community garden projects have received a share of nearly $200,000 in funding through the State Government’s Community Gardens Grants Program.
Grants of up to $10,000 each were awarded to community-based organisations to establish or improve sustainable, edible community gardens throughout WA.
Funding was awarded to projects that encourage active community participation and allow community members to develop or use their skills to enhance community life. Among the recipients are:
- Incredible Edible Broome to hold workshops to increase skills in food security and food waste management
- Boddington Community Resource Centre to develop a native bush tucker garden in partnership with the Aboriginal community and local volunteers.
- Hopetoun Community Resource Centre to establish the Youth Earth Keepers Initiative – a youth-led community garden and green waste recycling program, envisioned as a hub of inclusivity, sustainability and community engagement
- Yandeyarra Remote Community School to roll out the Community Desert to Plate Project
- Milligan Community Learning and Resource Centre to run Homegrown Community Garden workshops accessible to people who have newly moved to Australia.
The Community Gardens Grants Program is available to incorporated not-for-profit community organisations, local governments and community groups.
Please see the Communities Grants Program page for details of all grant recipients.
