A new team established within the Department of Communities’ Disability division is making a positive impact on the lives of people with disability in Western Australia.
The Communities Inclusion Connection Team (CICT) helps individuals and families across WA to connect with mainstream supports and specialised services.
The 18-member team takes a holistic community-based approach to support individuals and families navigate systems and access services that will meet their individual needs so they can lead their best lives.
Director Sheila-Anne MacLeod said the key focus of the team was to provide targeted early intervention supports that would build capacity, reducing the potential impacts that people with disability, their families and carers experience.
The team provides three key functions:
- Navigation – with a ‘no wrong door’ approach, any person across WA can access timely information, sign posting and linkage to appropriate services.
- Connection – people with disability in the Perth metro area who require additional support will be able to access our Communities Inclusion Connectors for direct service navigation and case management.
- Engagement – our Engagement officer will foster direct linkages to key stakeholders and community groups to build capacity, promote inclusion and identify and develop solutions to service gaps and barriers.
Sheila-Anne said people who had accessed CICT reported welcoming the service.
“They have told us they feel they have been heard and appreciate having a direct point of contact,” she said.
“Many have commented that they have increased confidence, having someone to walk alongside them in their journey.”
