Prime areas refer to areas of Western Australia not subject to a live title that have a high likelihood of resource prospectivity and/or proximity to essential infrastructure that would facilitate future development. These areas may be set aside for future release through a Declaration of Reservation of blocks.
The Minister for Mines and Petroleum has declared a number of prime areas within the State for both petroleum and geothermal energy resources. The Department of Energy, Mining, Industry Regulations and Safety (the department) will draw on these reserves when considering future acreage releases.
The public can view current designated prime areas for petroleum and geothermal energy resources via Tengraph Web. To see the spatial layer, the user must select the relevant layer for petroleum or geothermal prime areas (Declared Reserved Blocks).
More information is available in the Acreage release and designated prime areas guidelines.
