Applications for the 2024 Premier's Science Awards are closed.

The Premier's Science Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in Western Australia.

Winners will be announced at the Premier’s Science Awards ceremony later in the year.

WA scientists, researchers, STEM tertiary students, STEM teachers and educators, and STEM engagement providers are encouraged to apply. 

Why apply?

There are 8 categories in the 2024 Awards, with prizes ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

As a winner or finalist, you will be recognised for your work by your peers, scientific organisations and the wider community.

You will receive a short professional video, promoting your work and achievements.

You will also be invited to attend the awards ceremony, with the opportunity to network with senior government representatives, industry leaders and key stakeholders in the STEM community.

Applications for the 2024 Premier's Science Awards closed at 10:00am (AWST) Friday, 26 April 2024.

Scientist of the Year

Awarded to a world class scientist who has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement and has been active in the field particularly in the past 10 years.

Cash prize: $50,000.

Mid-Career Scientist of the Year

Awarded to an outstanding scientist who completed their highest degree between 5 and 15 years ago, and has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Cash prize: $10,000.

Early Career Scientist of the Year

Awarded to an outstanding scientist who has completed their highest degree within the past 5 years and demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Cash prize: $10,000.

Student Scientist of the Year

Awarded to an outstanding postgraduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to science at an early stage and shows great promise in reaching the highest levels of excellence.

Cash prize: $10,000.

Aboriginal STEM Student of the Year

Awarded to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander undergraduate or postgraduate student who demonstrates excellence in STEM studies.

Cash prize: $10,000.

STEM Educator of the Year – Schools (Primary and Secondary)

Awarded to a teacher or educator who demonstrates excellence in a field of STEM education in schools (primary, secondary, and/or vocational education), and who has made outstanding contributions to enhancing student engagement in STEM.

Cash prize: $10,000.

STEM Educator of the Year – Tertiary (Universities and Registered Training Organisations)

Awarded to a lecturer or educator who demonstrates excellence in a field of STEM education in a tertiary setting (universities, TAFE colleges, and/or Registered Training Organisations), and who has made outstanding contributions to enhancing student engagement in STEM.

Cash prize: $10,000.
