The Aboriginal Affairs Division (AAD) is dedicated to building stronger relationships between the police and Aboriginal communities to enhance community safety.
Our core mission includes creating and implementing various initiatives, interactions, policies, and programs that respectfully incorporate cultural methodologies
The AAD has 3 core units:
- Aboriginal Community Liaison: prioritises the facilitation and support of frontline policing and Aboriginal communities through culturally respectful methodologies.
- Cultural Projects and Governance: promotes understanding to ensure cultural considerations are integral to our Agency and Aboriginal Communities.
- Policy and Strategy: shapes and guides strategic direction and policy framework, ensuring all works are innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with our core values and goals.

Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers

- Encourage positive engagement and collaboration between the WA Police Force, Aboriginal community and stakeholders to promote greater safety and reduction in crime.
- In a culturally safe manner, assist and guide both Aboriginal people and police, during critical and arising community issues.
Locations: Goldfields, Kimberley, Mid-West, Pilbara, South-West and Wheatbelt and located at the following Police Stations:
- Broome
- Bunbury
- Derby
- Geraldton
- Kalgoorlie
- Kununurra
- South Hedland
Aboriginal advisory groups
Show moreIn 2021, the Aboriginal Affairs Division initiated the formation of Aboriginal Advisory Groups as a pioneering collaborative effort. This initiative involves the WA Police Force, community members and agencies coming together with a shared vision.
The primary purpose of these advisory groups is to address and resolve issues within local communities, nurturing partnerships and fostering understanding.
Through their dedicated efforts, these groups aim to create positive and lasting outcomes.
The Aboriginal advisory groups have been established in the Southwest, Mid-West and Kimberley Regions and currently being planned to exist in other areas.
