Performing hazardous tasks? You might need a licence
WorkSafe requires businesses and people performing a range of hazardous tasks to either get a licence, permit, registration or make an official notification before starting work. This is to ensure only persons with appropriate qualifications and skill levels can carry out the work in Western Australia.
Requirements for licences or registrations are set out in the work health and safety regulations managed by WorkSafe.
You can find information on what those licences and registrations are, and how to get them.
- Asbestos removal licence to remove specific types and amounts of asbestos
- Demolition licence to carry out demolition work
- High risk work licence, such as scaffolding and rigging, operating cranes and forklifts, and using boilers and other pressure equipment
- Plant design and registration, such as pressure vessels, boilers, cranes and escalators including alteration
- High risk work licence accredited assessor to conduct high risk work licence assessments on behalf of registered training organisations approved by WorkSafe
Regularly check licences
Use the Online Licence Search to verify the status of licences, registrations, permits, certificates, approvals, and other such authorisations issued by the WorkSafe Commissioner.
Employers need to regularly check workers' licences to ensure the licence is valid. The register includes the licence holder’s name, licence number and type, licence status, the licence expiry date (if any) and licence conditions.
