Graduate Program

The Department of Justice Graduate Program is a 12-month opportunity for recent university graduates to launch their careers, develop core skills and begin their journey towards becoming future leaders with one of the most diverse public sector agencies in Western Australia.

Program Elements

The 12-month program offers:

  • Three rotations across various business areas aligned with your discipline.
  • Interdepartmental learning and networking opportunities.
  • Leadership forums with the Department’s Senior Executives and subject matter experts.
  • Participation in the Public Sector Commission’s Launch Program.
  • Career counselling and support from a formal mentor, the Graduate Coordinator and your line managers.

Applications for the 2026 program will open on Monday,14 April 2025 and close on Monday, 12 May 2025.

Graduate Streams and Disciplines

The Department is looking for Graduate Officers from various education disciplines. As a part of the application process, you will be asked to nominate your preferred business stream(s) based on your study background, experiences and/or interests.

The three streams are:

  • Business and Commerce – including Business Administration, Business Analytics, Human Resources, Management, Business Law, Employment Relations, Economics, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology and Data
  • Accounting – Accounting, Finance, Procurement and Contract Management
  • Humanities and Justice – Law, Legal Studies, Social Justice, Criminology, Politics, Public Policy, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology.

Program Eligibility

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold, or be in the final term of, a relevant tertiary degree. The qualification must have been completed within 3 years of the program’s start date.

Student Placements and Work Integrated Learning

The Department of Justice university partnerships.

The Department of Justice partners with several universities to provide on-the-job experience whilst undertaking university course work.

Work Integrated Learning through your university is an opportunity to apply your academic learning practically within the workplace whilst completing required units as part of your degree.

Speak to your university or Work Integrated Learning Coordinator about placement opportunities at the Department whilst completing your degree.
