Graduate Program

The Department of Justice Graduate Program is a 12-month opportunity providing recent university graduates a chance to launch their career, build core skills and commence their journey to become a future leader with one of the most diverse Public Sector agencies in Western Australia.

Program Elements

The 12-month program includes:

  • Three rotations throughout various business areas relevant to the participant’s discipline.
  • Interdepartmental learning and networking.
  • Leadership forums with the Department’s Senior Executives and subject matter experts.
  • Participation in the Public Sector Commission’s Launch Program.
  • Career counselling and support from a formal mentor, the Graduate Coordinators and your line managers.

Applications for the 2025 Graduate Program have now closed.

Education Disciplines

The Department is looking for Graduate Officers from various education disciplines. As a part of the application process, you will be asked to nominate your preferred business stream/s based on your study background, experiences and/or interests. 

The four streams are:

  • Business and Commerce – including Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting and Finance, Management, Business Law, Employment Relations, Economics, Procurement and Contract Management, Marketing and Communications.
  • Humanities – including Criminology, Politics, Public Policy, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology.
  • Justice – including Legal Studies, Law and Social Justice.
  • Information Technology and Data – including Business Analytics.

Program Eligibility

  • Successful completion of a tertiary qualification within two years of the Graduate Program commencing.
  • A commitment to excellence in your chosen field of study and in the community.

Student Placements and Work Integrated Learning

The Department of Justice partners with several universities to provide on-the-job experience whilst undertaking university course work.

Work Integrated Learning through your university is an opportunity to apply your academic learning practically within the workplace whilst completing required units as part of your degree.

Speak to your university or Work Integrated Learning Coordinator about placement opportunities at the Department whilst completing your degree.
