Western Australia has a world-class health and medical life sciences ecosystem.  It features a highly-skilled, collaborative medical research workforce, outstanding research infrastructure and a number of highly-regarded medical research institutes.

This growing sector presents opportunities to build on WA’s established expertise in high need areas including

  • medical research,
  • new gene technologies,
  • phenomics, medical technology,
  • long-term population health studies,
  • data linkage and,
  • digital health solutions.

Supporting the health and medical life sciences sector in Western Australia not only enables optimal health outcomes for Western Australians but also creates high value jobs and diversifies our economy.

The Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy sets out the key objectives and focus areas for development of the sector.  It is further supported with $8.6 million over 4years in funding for its implementation.

New biomedical research hub planned for Floreat

The State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CSIRO and the University of Western Australia to activate CSIRO's Floreat site as part of a new biomedical precinct.
