About

The Western Australian Government is acting to provide assistance to the State’s critical lithium industry, supporting thousands of local jobs and advancing the State's push to become a global battery minerals processing hub.

To assist lithium miners during the ramp-up phase of production and the development of downstream processing facilities, the State Government has committed $150 million in funding over a period of up to 24 months.

The Lithium Industry Support Program includes:

  • Up to $90 million in assistance to waive fees for downstream lithium processors for up to 2 years
  • $9.37 million to cover port charges and mining tenement fees for lithium miners during the ramp-up phase of their projects, for up to 24 months.
  • A$50 million loan facility to help under-pressure lithium miners to access temporary loans to sustain their operations, interest free for up to 2 years.

Expressions of interest for Lithium Loan Facility

Expressions of Interest are now open and closes at 5pm Monday 23 December 2025. Interested and eligible proponents are encouraged to complete the form below. Please note that individual loans will be capped at a maximum of $15 million per proponent. More information about this loan facility is available below.

About the Lithium Loan Facility

A$50 million loan facility to help under-pressure lithium miners to access temporary loans to sustain their operations, interest free for up to 2 years.

The Facility is designed to offer temporary financial assistance to support the operations of lithium miners, based on their current financial position and operational plan.

Available to all spodumene concentrate producers in Western Australia, this interest-free loan facility aims to stabilise operations, protect jobs, and contribute to the growth of the State’s critical minerals industry.

Companies will be required to repay the loans through quarterly payments over the two years following the end of the interest free-period, which will cease after average lithium spodumene prices have exceeded US$1,100 per tonne for two successive quarters, or by 1 January 2027, if not stopped before then. Individual loans will be capped at a maximum of $15 million per proponent.

Eligibility - Loan Facility

What lithium mining operations are eligible for the Loan Facility?

Proponents must be lithium miners actively operating a lithium mine in Western Australia, producing at a commercial scale. The operation must be ongoing and not currently under care and maintenance. The applicant must nominate a single mine, if the company has more than one, and clearly outline how the loan will be used to sustain operations. Only one application is permitted per applicant.
Additional eligibility criteria will be outlined once applications formally open.
