WA Youth Parliament

WA Youth Parliament is a youth-led advocacy and leadership program which acts as the most senior youth advisory body to the Western Australian Government.
Last updated:

The program encourages young people aged 15-25 to actively participate in shaping their community by giving them an opportunity to express their views, concerns and solutions to those with the power to make a change.

Participants spend time in committees developing bills and attend a week-long camp during which the legislation and other motions are debated in the State Parliament. Successfully passed bills are handed to the state government and opposition for consideration.

Department of Communities is proud to support the Y WA to run the Youth Parliament to give young Western Australians experience in leadership, public speaking, writing legislation and working as a team to achieve outcomes.

In 2024, Youth Parliament took place between 7 to 12 July with 58 Youth Parliamentarians debating eight Bills. The topics of the Bills were:

  • Child Protection and Foster Care Bill 2024,
  • Regional Education Advancement Fund Bill 2024.
  • Equality in Education Bill 2024.
  • Food and Beverage Marketing Bill 2024.
  • Housing Supply and Rental Reform Bill 2024.
  • Justice and Policing Reform Omnibus Bill 2024.
  • Rehabilitative Arts Programs in Prisons Bill 2024.
