Department of Communities Housing - repairs and maintenance

Information for Department of Communities Housing tenants about housing repairs and maintenance.
Last updated:

The Housing Authority operates within the Department of Communities (Communities).

As a tenant, you have rights and responsibilities regarding repairs and maintenance for your property.

As a tenant you must:

  • Keep your property reasonably clean.
  • Report any damage to Housing Direct on 1300 137 677 or to your Housing Services Officer as soon as possible.

If you or your visitors have caused damage to the property, you may be liable for the repair costs. Your Housing Services Officer will contact you to organise a payment plan.

Your Housing Officer is there to support you to keep your property clean, safe and undamaged.

When completing maintenance and repair works at your property, Communities will aim to complete works within reasonable timeframes. Please see the Maintenance Policy Manual for more information.

See our remote Aboriginal housing webpage for more information on maintenance in remote Aboriginal communities.
