The focus of the Western Australian Enterprise Architecture Framework (WEAF) is to provide agencies with the capability to identify and explore opportunities related to whole of government initiatives and inter-agency collaborations. It aims to reduce duplication and complexity while leveraging the capabilities and resources of the entire sector.
The Digital WA Strategy identifies the need for enterprise architecture as a capability that will assist agencies to more successfully execute initiatives under the Strategy. The development of the framework is the first step in building uniform capabilities across the public sector. Adoption and implementation will increase the likelihood of agencies delivering the full benefits of digital transformation.
The standards leveraged by the framework include the:
- Australian Government Architecture Reference Models and How To Use Guide
- United States’ Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF),
- Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
- Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA).
The WEAF was developed over 12 months in consultation with WA government agencies and was designed to be easily adopted by agencies of any size. It reflects the enterprise architecture maturity of the majority of agencies and it gives agencies a road map to develop better strategic planning and ICT management capabilities.
