Note of appreciation

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the Phase 1 consultation process for the WA Biodiscovery Bill.

An intention of the Bill is to recognise the value of traditional knowledge, held by Aboriginal people, in scientific endeavours and to provide protection for the future use of that knowledge.

Discussions during the consultation process included how traditional knowledge about WA biological resources, our native plants and animals, has been obtained and used in the past. We recognise that these conversations caused deep feelings to emerge.

The involvement of Aboriginal people in the Bill’s development is invaluable and we appreciate the contributions made by all consultation participants.
