The WA Government has commissioned an independent review of the employment arrangements for Members of Parliament’s electorate officers.
The review will consider the employment frameworks for electorate officers in WA and consider whether they remain fit for purpose and ensure they can effectively support Members of Parliament to respond to the needs of their constituents.
The review is in response to a Corruption and Crime Commission’s report released in November 2024 that noted that current employment arrangements for electorate officers are complex and present challenges.
In particular, the Review’s Terms of Reference will examine and provide recommendations on the following:
- Models of employment arrangements of electorate officers, drawing on insights from other jurisdictions and targeted consultation.
- Amendments that would need to be made to relevant policies and guidelines to implement the options identified in the Review.
- The critical enablers required to implement the recommendations of the Review.
- The role and responsibilities of electorate officers.
- The appropriate level of electorate officer resources provided to Members of Parliament.
The WA Government has appointed former Australian Government Minister, the Honourable Ben Morton, to lead the review.
The review process will involve undertaking targeted consultation with key stakeholders and a final report will be provided to the WA Government for its consideration in mid-2025. For any enquiries about the review please contact the Secretariat at EOReview@dpc.wa.gov.au.
