Indonesia Connect Roadshow 2023 aims to strengthen relations and unlock new trade and investment partnerships between Western Australia and Indonesia.

The mission features 5 industry streams: energy transition; international education; primary industries; creative industries and the digital economy; and tourism.

Energy Transition

Western Australia is primed to play a central role in global critical mineral supply chains as
a reliable, ethical and cost-effective supplier of advanced value-added materials. The State
boasts a diverse range of battery and critical minerals which has seen Western Australia
emerge as a global battery and critical minerals hub. This includes global-scale investments
in battery-grade lithium hydroxide and nickel sulphate plants which provide essential inputs
for the manufacturing of rechargeable batteries and rare earth processing facilities.

Primary Industries

Western Australia’s agriculture, food and fisheries industries are globally recognised
for their wide range of premium quality products. Our expansive land area, climate and
soils are suited to a large scale diversified primary production base. Western Australian
agriculture, food, fibre, fisheries and forestry products are exported to over 150
international markets. Notably, over 60 per cent of Western Australia’s agrifood
exports go to the Asia-Pacific region.

International Education

The international education industry in Western Australia is diverse and includes:
five internationally accredited universities; private and public schools; hands-on vocational
education training institutions; and renowned English language colleges.

Perth is a safe place to live and study with a reliable public transport network and friendly
international student community. Most Western Australian universities have a global
focus with campuses in multiple locations around the world and can deliver both offshore
and onshore units. Perth is also one of the most accessible global cities and is closer to
Jakarta than the nearest Australia state capital. This makes Perth the ideal location for
international students with quick access to friends and family during study breaks.

Western Australia also boasts a prosperous economy with diverse work opportunities
and innovative projects. While studying in Western Australia, students can also work
in Perth and gain experience through the many industry internships on offer. Western
Australia also holds abundant employment opportunities for recent graduates with Perth
hosting the corporate headquarters of more than 30 per cent of businesses on
the Australian Stock Exchange.

Creative Industries and Digital Economy

Western Australia is a world leader in data research and is an emerging hub for technological
innovation. The State’s digital capabilities are broad and extend from space technology and
cyber security, through to film development and immersive screen technology.

With a dynamic ecosystem comprised of more than 160 co-working spaces, start-ups and incubators, Western Australia is set to become a renowned global hub of invention, investment, innovation and impact.

Tourism

The top 5 drivers of destination choice for Indonesians include world-class nature and
wildlife; a safe and secure destination; clean cities and good infrastructure; world class
coastlines, beaches and marine wildlife; and friendly citizens offering local hospitality –
all of which Western Australia offers in abundance.

In December 2022, Western Australia’s new global tourism brand, Walking On A Dream,
was launched in Indonesia by the then Minister for Tourism, now Premier, the Hon Roger
Cook MLA, inviting Indonesians and other travellers to visit and discover Western Australia’s
wondrous, otherworldly and dreamlike sights.
