To ensure that consumers of behind-the-meter electricity services have adequate customer protections, Energy Policy WA has recommended that the Electricity Industry Act 2004 be amended to allow a customised approach to the regulation of prescribed categories of ‘alternative electricity service’ with an Alternative Electricity Service Code of Practice (AES Code). The AES Code will be supported by provisions for compliance and enforcement, and a mechanism for resolving disputes between service providers and consumers.
Behind-the-meter generation and storage services are proposed to be the first form of alternative electricity service regulated under the arrangements.
