The Pilbara Electricity Infrastructure Project was established to develop and implement a model for the operation of, and access to, electricity infrastructure in the Pilbara region.

Stage One of the Project was to scope a new model and supporting arrangements; and assess the feasibility of implementing the model.

A Project Committee was appointed to oversee the Project; with support from staff and resources within the Public Utilities Office.

The Project Committee considered the broader reform opportunities within the context of projections of limited medium-term growth in electricity demand and generation investment. The Project Committee provided a Stage One report outlining its recommendations to the Minister for Energy, following a six month investigation into the feasibility of reform.

Major electricity industry stakeholders with interests in the Pilbara region, including electricity businesses, major electricity users, resource companies, and the Pilbara Development Commission were consulted during the Stage One process.
