Licence exemptions granted for the co-location of storage and licensed generating works

The electricity distribution and transmission licence exemptions for licensed generators have been extended to situations where storage works are co-located with generating works.
Last updated:

The electricity distribution and transmission licence exemptions for licensed generators have been extended to situations where storage works are co-located with generating works.

Holders of an electricity generation licence will now remain exempt from the need to hold a distribution or transmission licence when they co-locate storage works with their licensed generating works behind the same connection point to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

The exemptions apply to situations where the distribution or transmission systems are used solely to transport electricity between the licensed generating works, the storage works and the SWIS.

The exemptions are intended to help support the adoption of low-emissions electricity supplies in the SWIS.

The licence exemptions have been approved by the Governor under section 8 of the Electricity Industry Act 2004. The licence exemptions are provided in clause 17 of the Electricity Industry Exemption 2005
