The Electricity Industry Exemption Order 2005 (the Exemption Order) includes electricity retail and distribution licence exemptions for operating or constructing an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Western Australia (clause 19).
The licence exemptions have been extended to 30 June 2027 by the Governor under section 8 of the Electricity Industry Act 2004. The licence exemptions can be found in the Electricity Industry Exemption Order 2005 on the Western Australian Legislation website.
During this extension, Energy Policy WA intends to conduct further work to determine the most suitable form of regulation for public EV charging stations, and what conditions and/or obligations should be applied to operators of EV charging stations in the future.
