COVID-19 coronavirus: Declarations

There are no declarations in place relating to COVID-19 in Western Australia.

On 15 March 2020, Hon Francis Logan, Minister for Emergency Services, declared a State of Emergency in Western Australia with effect from 12:00am, 16 March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The declaration was enabled through section 56 of the Emergency Management Act 2005 (WA).

On 16 March 2020, Hon Roger Cook, Minister for Health, declared a Public Health State of Emergency, effective 12am 17 March 2020. The declaration was made under section 167 of the Public Health Act 2016 (WA).

Western Australia’s State of Emergency and the Public Health State of Emergency came to an end at 12:01am Friday, 4 November 2022.

A Temporary COVID-19 Declaration can be made by the State Emergency Coordinator if COVID-19 escalates and public health and social measures are needed to protect the community.

Businesses can adopt their own policies and work health and safety arrangements. This includes:

  1. Wearing a mask
  2. Testing and isolating if people feel unwell
  3. Avoiding high-risk settings until symptoms have cleared

You're encouraged to test and isolate if you feel unwell with COVID-like symptoms. Stay up to date with your vaccinations, remember to continue to wash or sanitise your hands, and wear a mask as you need.
