Community Housing Prequalification Scheme

The Community Housing Prequalification Scheme has been developed to streamline procurement processes and increase housing supply.
Last updated:

The Department of Communities (Communities) is calling for Community Housing Providers (CHPs) and a limited group of others (e.g. Aboriginal Community Housing Organisations and Disability Housing Providers) to apply for the Community Housing Prequalification Scheme.

The Scheme provides a more cohesive and impactful collaboration between the Western Australian Government and the community housing sector, with the aim of providing better social and affordable housing for those in need.

The Scheme facilitates the delivery of development opportunities through efficient, effective and flexible procurement by removing or reducing the requirement for Expression of Interest (EOI) processes in social and affordable housing across Communities, Development WA and Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

Current EOI processes add time, complexity and administrative burden as well as up-front costs to both CHPs and State agencies. By capturing information up-front and prequalifying CHPs for predetermined categories of development all parties will benefit.

How to apply

The first round of applications closed at 5pm, Friday 13 September 2024. CHPs will be advised of their prequalification status by the end of November 2024.

CHPs who receive prequalification status will remain in the Prequalification Scheme for a period of three years, after which they will be required to submit a new application for prequalification.

The Prequalification Scheme will open on an annual basis for new applicants and for those who are already prequalified to update their prequalification status. For more information contact CHOPrequal@communities.wa.gov.au
