One way to inject some energy into a farewell morning tea is to crank up the volume on the Leningrad Cowboys’ “Those were the days’ tune, and watch your colleagues faces break into bemused cheerful grins and join in on the chorus.
That was Roza Cvetkoska’s power move as she celebrated over 39 years in the public service this week, with her most recent role as Manager Contract Information Management in the Contracting and Commissioning team.
Roza began her public service career in July 1985 at the Worker’s Compensation and Rehabilitation Commission (Workcover) assisting people back to work and liaising between employees, their medical practitioners and insurance companies. She recalls back in those days being paid cash in ‘pay packets’ – a distant memory for some, and never experienced by many!
Roza went on to work in several agencies including Ministry of Education, Water Authority of WA, Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, WA Police, Public Sector Management Office, Ministry of Justice, Department for Community Development, Department for Child Protection and finally the Department of Communities.
“Everywhere I went, I learned something new.”
“There has been such a transformation over the years, from typing pools to word processors to the computers and systems we use today, it has been great to be a part of that transformation and to continue learning.”
Roza’s Manager Sam Omollo said Roza’s dedication, expertise and positive attitude has consistently shone through everything she has worked on and she has been a friend and support to many. In her current role she has worked collaboratively with various stakeholders in the development of data collection tools, analysing and reporting data, always seeking to deliver high quality information.
“While I’m not on the frontline, I’d like to think my work contributed to providing data to assist good decision making and policy to fund services needed in the WA community and to analyse how they are meeting the clients needs and outcome.
Roza’s advice for a long career in the public service?
“What I’d say to anyone starting in the public service is three things - to work hard, get to know the business inside out and provide frank and fearless advice based on evidence, “ she said.
Roza is now looking forward to sleeping in next week, attending yoga and pilates, renovating her character home in North Perth, travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
“We will miss Roza’s energy, insightful perspectives, collaborative spirit, frank advice,” said Sam at the morning tea attended by many of Roza’s current and former colleagues.
Thank you Roza for your service. In the words of the Leningrad Cowboys – “those were the days my friend.”
