
Since WA Police launched the Safe2Say platform on 31 July 2023, enabling people to anonymously report sexual crimes - including child abuse matters - over 1700 reports have been received.
The portal ensures that a specialist investigator at Sex Crime Division is the first point of contact and detectives are pleased that so many victim-survivors are embracing this alternate reporting option.
One recent arrest came from information reported on the Safe2Say website on 15 January 2025. The report detailed alleged offences committed against a 15-year-old girl in New Zealand via an online chat site. Officers from Child Exploitation Operations commenced and investigation from this information and during the investigation they identified the same offender has also sent indecent images to a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl, also using an online chat site.
On Thursday 30 January 2025, a 22-year-old man from Leederville was apprehended and charged with
‘Intent to Expose a Person believed to be under 16 years to Indecent Matter’ and he is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court 17 April 2025.
Sex Crime investigators have received comments from several victim-survivors who have stated they never reported their abuse to anyone previously and are grateful that this platform now allows them a voice to report for the very first time.
WA Police encourage victim-survivors to come forward to report sexual abuse recognising the courage it takes to do this.
