Housing Minister John Carey has announced the release of the Request for Tender seeking an Architect to design the Perth Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation at 110A Hamilton Street, Cannington.

Following the recent site announcement, this is another important milestone for the project. Integral to the project to date and moving forward will be ongoing consultation and engagement with the Aboriginal community throughout Western Australia, Noongar Elders and Custodians, and with the City of Canning.

The Perth Aboriginal Short Stay will respond to the needs of Aboriginal people across Western Australia who travel to Perth to access a range of services or are visiting for business, cultural or family reasons.

Established Aboriginal Short Stays in Kalgoorlie, Derby and Broome are valued in each community for providing regional visitors with accommodation and welcoming spaces to meet and for participation in community events.

The Minister thanked the City of Canning for working with the Perth Short Stay project team in undertaking engagement with the local community and in supporting delivery of the project.
