Our Emergency Relief and Support team (also known as, the purple shirts) are in Fitzroy Crossing providing immediate supports such as temporary accommodation and replacing flood damaged household items.

The Housing and Assets team have also been working tirelessly with the help of local contractors to clean up mud, paint and re-tile homes so people can return home.

A few key highlights for both our Department of Communities’ teams include:

  • Community meetings where we put on a BBQ and talked to people about their Journey Home
  • Starting ground works for donga accommodation ahead of the next wet season
  • minor refurbishment works including painting, stripping walls and tiling has commenced in Darlngunaya, Fitzroy Crossing and Junjuwa
  • Re-opening the Kabayi Booroo (Derby Hostel) as a place for people to stay for now
  • Supporting Local Government staff at the Flood Hubs and operating a hotline to provide ongoing supports

We'll be around for as long as it takes to build back Fitzroy Valley and are committed to supporting flood impacted residents for years to come.
