It’s the fifth year running Oliver and Isla have claimed the number one spot, while Noah moved into equal first from second place (held for five years since 2020) and Charlotte jumped from fourth position in 2023.
The last time there was a tie for top spot was when Charlotte and Ava shared first place in 2018.
For Oliver, it was the 10th time in 11 years the name has topped the boys’ list.
Second-placed Amelia narrowly missed out on making it a three-way tie for most popular girl’s name, with just one registration less than Isla and Charlotte.
Newcomers to the top 10 list in 2024 from the year before are Oscar, Violet, Ivy and Isabella, with Isabella skyrocketing from 20th place in 2023.

There were 30,825 births registered in WA in 2024.
Births Deaths and Marriages Registrar Alison Jackson said there’s a lot of interest in popular baby names every year and the Registry provides the most accurate data, given it records every birth registration application across the State.
“This year saw the introduction of online birth registrations, an option parents have taken up in droves.” Ms Jackson said.
“The Registry has received more than 14,500 digital birth registration applications since launching the online portal in May,” she said.
“Data now indicates close to 90 per cent of parents are choosing the online option, instead of posting or lodging paper birth registration forms at the Registry.”
Ms Jackson said regional data reflected their own trends, with a different set of names occupying some top spots.
“For instance, in the Goldfields-Esperance region, Ethan and Harper were number one, Mia was most popular girls name in the South West/Great Southern and Levi topped boys’ names in Peel,” she said
Families have 60 days from the birth of a child to lodge registration with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
