Detectives from Cold Case Investigations have charged a 54-year-old man in relation to a historical armed robbery incident that occurred at a post office in Safety Bay on 3 March 1998.
It will be alleged about 4pm, four males with their faces concealed entered the post office. Two were armed with shotguns, one armed with a knife, and the fourth person was armed with a baseball bat.
The offenders forced employees into the rear office and demanded the safe be opened, whilst they were being threatened with a shotgun.
The offenders stole a sum of money before running into the carpark where they threatened members of the public before fleeing the area in a stolen vehicle.
Twenty-six years after the incident, detectives from Cold Case Investigations have charged a 54-year-old man from Pingelly with:
• One count of Aggravated Armed Robbery; and
• Two counts of Steal Motor Vehicle.
He is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 11 December 2024.
