Anzac Day services and events in the Perth and Peel regions have been cancelled due to the Premier’s announcement of a three day lockdown starting from midnight on Friday, 23 April 2021. On 25 April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula who became known as the Anzacs. On this date each year, Anzac Day has become a day to commemorate the lives of Australians lost in military operations.
The Returned and Services League of Australia WA (RSLWA) has provided an Anzac Day 2021 list of services and an events on their website. Please do check the RSLWA website and with your local RSL for other event changes, accessibility and transport information.
Everyone can still participate in the driveway dawn service. Light a candle from your driveway, lawn or balcony and tune into ABC Radio (ABC Radio Perth for metropolitan listeners) for a special Light Up The Dawn broadcast from 6am.
You can participate at home by:
- lighting a candle and standing in quiet contemplation in your driveway or on your balcony or lawn
- tuning into ABC Radio (ABC Radio Perth for metropolitan listeners) for a special Light Up The Dawn broadcast from 6am
- playing the Last Post or the Reveille if you’re a musician
- reciting The Ode of Remembrance
- dressing your letterbox or window with poppies, rosemary or a wreath
- having a traditional ‘gunfire breakfast’ and raising a mug to our Diggers.
