Kununurra fish kill response underway

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is responding to a report received on 4 October 2018 of dead fish at Kununurra.

Ten large dead fish (including barramundi, bream and catfish) were reportedly observed by a member of the public in the vicinity of Dunham River.

Four dead catfish were observed by DWER’s Kununurra regional office staff on 4 October 2018 at a site upstream of the Dunham River.

Water quality samples have been taken for testing by DWER, including temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and nutrient levels.

Contact with dead fish should be avoided and the Department of Health (DoH) advises against eating or handling fish found in these circumstances.

People are asked to report any fish deaths by phoning the DPIRD 24-hour Fishwatch hotline on 1800 815 507.
