The McGowan Government has introduced new regulations that exempt businesses from paying payroll tax on the Commonwealth Government’s JobKeeper Payment scheme until 28 March 2021.

The JobKeeper Payment scheme enables eligible employers to claim a fortnightly payment for current and recently stood down employees. It was originally due to conclude on 27 September 2020, but the Commonwealth has since extended the payment for eligible businesses to 28 March 2021.

The new regulations ensure Western Australian businesses will continue to be exempt from payroll tax on payments provided under the extended scheme.
